One of the biggest time-wasters in any sign or vehicle wrap project is a poorly structured brief. When a Manchester business owner comes to us with vague instructions, the project takes longer, costs more in revision rounds, and sometimes delivers a result that doesn’t quite hit the mark. A well-structured brief, on the other hand, allows us to produce an accurate quote and the right first design proof faster than you might expect.

Here’s exactly what to tell us — and every sign company you approach — to get the best results as quickly as possible.

1. What Is the Sign or Product For?

Start by telling us clearly what you need. “A sign for my shop” or “graphics for my van” — simple as that. Then specify: what type of premises, what type of vehicle, what’s the primary purpose of the sign (attracting passing trade, identifying a building, branding a vehicle fleet, exhibiting at a trade show).

2. Size and Location

Where will the sign be installed, and how large does it need to be? For shop signs, tell us the width of your fascia and the available height. For vehicle graphics, tell us the make, model, and year of the vehicle. For banners, tell us where it will be displayed and what viewing distance applies.

3. Your Brand Assets

Send us your logo in the highest resolution format you have (ideally an AI, EPS, or PDF vector file). If you don’t have a vector logo — very common with small businesses — tell us and we’ll either recreate it from a high-resolution image or design a new one. Include your brand colours (Pantone, CMYK, or hex codes if known), and any brand guidelines document if you have one.

4. What the Sign Needs to Say

Write out the exact text. Don’t assume we’ll know what to include. Specify your business name exactly as you want it to appear, your tagline (if applicable), phone number, website, address, services listed (if any), and any accreditation logos you want included.

5. Examples You Like

If you’ve seen a sign, van wrap, or design that you think represents the style or feel you’re after, send us a photo or a link. Visual references are by far the most efficient way to align on aesthetic direction. You don’t need to explain it — just show us.

6. Your Budget and Deadline

Tell us your budget range and your deadline. Many business owners are coy about budget because they worry about being quoted up to it — but a realistic budget helps us recommend the right product for your situation. If you have £300, we won’t spend 30 minutes quoting you an illuminated 3D letter system. And if you’re flexible on budget, we can show you what’s possible at different investment levels.
