Branded Shop Awnings in Manchester — Adding Shade, Style, and Signage to Your Shopfront
A quality shop awning does three things simultaneously: it provides practical shade and weather protection for customers approaching your shopfront, it creates a distinctive visual anchor for your business from the street, and — when branded with your name and logo — it delivers an additional signage element that works alongside your main fascia. At Signs Company Manchester, we supply and install printed awnings for retail shops, cafés, restaurants, and bars across Greater Manchester.
Types of Branded Awning We Supply
Roller (retractable) awnings — The most popular type for retail and hospitality. Mechanically or electrically operated arms extend and retract the awning fabric, allowing you to deploy shade only when needed. Available in manual (hand-crank) or motorised (remote control) operation. Fabric printed with your branding in full colour.
Fixed canopy awnings — Permanently extended fabric awnings on a fixed frame, providing constant weather protection and a permanent branded element to your shopfront. Common for butchers, fishmongers, traditional market traders, and businesses where the awning is a fundamental part of the shopfront identity.
Dutch canopies — A distinctive style of fixed canopy with a curved front profile — traditional in character and often seen on heritage shopfronts in conservation areas.
Valance signs — Even if you’re not adding a full awning, a valance panel below your existing awning can be printed with your business name, offering hours, and key services — creating additional signage real estate at eye level.
Awning Fabric and Branding
We use Dickson, Sauleda, and other premium awning fabrics — UV-stable, weatherproof, mould-resistant, and available in hundreds of colours and stripe patterns. Custom printing is applied to fabric using specialist UV inkjet processes that maintain flexibility and outdoor durability. All printed awnings are finished with UV laminate for extended colour life.
Planning Considerations for Awnings
In most commercial areas, awnings fall under the same Advertisement Regulations as other signs. In conservation areas and on listed buildings, additional consent may be required. We advise on planning requirements as part of every awning project and can assist with applications where needed.
