Every August, the same thing happens: businesses that have been meaning to update their signage “when things quiet down” find themselves at the back of a production queue. Schools reopening, the back-to-school retail season, and the final summer event burst all collide in August — making it one of the busiest months for sign orders, and one of the worst for last-minute requests. If you have any signage or print projects planned for August, order them in July. Here’s what to prioritise.
Back-to-School Retail Signage
For retailers with any back-to-school angle — stationery, uniforms, sportswear, footwear, or family-oriented businesses — August promotional signage needs to be in place by early August to capture the peak shopping period. Window vinyl promotions, A-board inserts, PVC banners, and in-store display materials for back-to-school campaigns should be designed and ordered by mid-July.
Event and Festival Signage
Manchester’s summer event calendar peaks in August with outdoor food festivals, music events, and business networking events. If your business is exhibiting or sponsoring an August event, your banners, pull-up stands, and branded materials need to be in production now — not in the week before the event.
New Academic Year School Signage
Schools refreshing signage for the new September academic year typically install over the summer break — requiring sign surveys in June/July and installation in August. If you’re a school business manager reading this in July, now is the time to get your signage survey booked so work can be completed during the summer shutdown.
Van Wrap Before the Autumn Busy Season
For trades businesses, autumn (September–November) is typically the busiest period — particularly for heating engineers, roofers, and builders catching up on jobs before winter. Getting your van wrapped in July or August means you go into the busy season fully branded rather than arriving at jobs in a plain white van.
